Project Update from Bangladesh
The 28th of January Afif, Natalia and Katrine from Bandhab travelled to Gaibandha in the northern Bangladesh. Our purpose of the visit was to monitor and evaluate the progress of the project, and to have seminars with our partner organization, Udayan Swabolombee Sangstha, to further the partnership and work between our two organizations.
The progress we have seen the last 6 months have created the foundation of which the rest of the project will be build. There have been formed 30 groups of 25 women and each group has chosen an executive committee to represent them. A highly prioritized task so far has been to strengthen the trust between the women. On our visits to four different groups, we saw that the groups have a great social bond and enjoy being together, which strengthen the groups in the long run! Besides this, all the groups now have started their self-saving programs.
The priority for the next phase is to open bank accounts for all groups, so they have a space to keep their savings and begin the teachings of income generating activities. This is something the women are looking for particular forward to learning more about!
We are incredibly positive and happy about the progress we have seen and can’t wait to see how the groups will grow even more!
